Bequests
Bequests offer the flexibility to ensure your family needs are met while also making a lasting impact.
To bequest a gift to Age Well, consider using the following language in your will: I give and bequeath unto Age Well, tax ID #22-2474636, ___% of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to be used for general charitable purposes.
- It’s easy—bequests can be included in a will and modified or revoked as needed to reflect changes in your circumstances or preferences.
- In some cases, bequests may provide tax savings or help reduce the tax burden for your heirs.
- Include a bequest provision in your will designating a percentage of your estate to Age Well.
- Inform Age Well of your commitment, which helps for planning and ensures your wishes can be fulfilled.
- Age Well receives the gift after your lifetime and applies it to fulfill our mission.
Retirement Plans
A gift of your retirement assets to Age Well is a simple way to maximize your charitable impact while reducing the estate tax burden on your heirs.
- It’s easy to complete or change a beneficiary designation form.
- You are in control and can designate all or a portion of your retirement account to Age Well.
- Age Well is exempt from paying income tax on an inherited retirement account, maximizing your impact.
- Name Age Well as the beneficiary of a qualifying retirement plan through a beneficiary designation form (an extra step may be required to designate a 401(k)).
- Inform Age Well of your commitment, which helps for planning and ensures your wishes can be fulfilled.
- After your lifetime, the remainder of your plan passes to Age Well tax-free.
Life Insurance
Giving a gift of life insurance involves little effort, potentially removes assets from your taxable estate, and is an easy way to make a difference in our aging community.
- It’s easy to complete or change a beneficiary designation form.
- You have the flexibility to name Age Well as a primary or contingent beneficiary.
- You may be eligible for tax savings when you name Age Well as a beneficiary.
- Name Age Well as a beneficiary of a policy insuring your life.
- Inform Age Well of your commitment, which helps for planning and ensures your wishes can be fulfilled.
- After your lifetime the plan benefits pass to Age Well free of federal estate tax.
Charitable Gift Annuity
A charitable gift annuity is a creative way to help you meet your financial and charitable goals while continuing to support older Vermonters.
Age Well partners with the Vermont Community Foundation to establish Charitable Gift Annuities. We will work with you and a Vermont Community Foundation Philanthropic Advisor to develop a contractual arrangement that produces a fixed income for your lifetime.
- You and/or your beneficiary receive payments for life.
- You receive an immediate income tax deduction for a portion of your gift.
- Depending on the situation, you may be eligible for some additional tax savings.
- Create an annuity and designate Age Well as a favorite organization to benefit.
- You and/or up to two beneficiaries receive fixed annual payments for life.
- Inform Age Well of your commitment, which helps for planning and ensures your wishes can be fulfilled.
- After the lifetime of the income beneficiaries, the principal is distributed to Age Well.
Charitable Trusts
Charitable lead trusts or charitable remainder trusts offer different ways to provide for yourself and loved ones during your lifetime while creating a lasting impact.
Each type of trust has different goals. For instance, a charitable remainder trust provides an income to you and more than two others now and passes the balance of the trust on to Age Well later.
A charitable lead trust, on the other hand, pays a current annual income to Age Well now and passes the balance of the trust on to your heirs later.
- Charitable trusts offer flexible funding options and diversify your portfolio.
- There is no capital gains tax due at the time of transfer.
- You and those you designate receive payment for a fixed number of years.
- You may be entitled to a partial charitable income tax deduction the year you make your gift.
- Establish a trust with the Vermont Community Foundation.
- You or your beneficiaries receive payments for life or for a term of up to 20 years.
- Inform Age Well of your commitment, which helps for planning and ensures your wishes can be fulfilled.
- When the charitable remainder trust terminates, the remaining balance will transfer to Age Well.
- Establish a trust with the Vermont Community Foundation.
- The trust pays an annual income to Age Well for a specified period of years.
- Inform Age Well of your commitment, which helps for planning and ensures your wishes can be fulfilled.
- When the charitable lead trust terminates, the trust principal will revert to your heirs.
