Join the Vermont Symphony Orchestra for a free workshop on September 26th!
The VSO premiere of Adolphus Hailstork’s 1984 composition, An American Port of Call, takes place at the Flynn on September 27, and this conversation on September 26 at UVM covers Hailstork’s career as one of the U.S.’ preeminent choral and orchestral composers. Hailstork will also workshop the music of a UVM music composition student during this afternoon education program.
Virginia-based composer Adolphus Hailstork is a Fullbright Scholar, a Virginia Cultural Laureate, a Naxos recording artist and renowned living American choral and orchestral composer with over 250 works created over a 61-year musical career. He studied with Nadia Boulanger, David Diamond, H. Owen Reed, and Vittorio Gannini, and has had significant performances of his work with New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Chicago, Baltimore and other Symphony Orchestras lead by conductors including James de Priest, Paul Freeman, Daniel Barenboim, Kurt Masur, Lorin Maezel, Jo Ann Falletta and David Lockington.
